A Little Foxy

I have had problems recently with arthritis in my wrists and fingers bothering me with the constantly erratic temperatures. We were making blankets ( future post ) for a mission project at church and with a piece of the scrap fabric that was leftover I made what I deemed a wrist warmer. Little did I know that these fingerless gloves were in style this year. I've seen countless patterns , posts on Etsy and even product at Target for the exact same thing that I thought I was being original in making for myself. Check out these foxy littles :   And then there's this... of course OWLS ( from Knitting Treasures on Etsy )!: I did have someone ask me if I was bringing back the Michael Jackson-one glove look. But sometimes it really is about comfort over beauty. I see more of these cozies in my future. Do you have a favorite comfort item that you keep handy when the weather turns colder?

DIY Canvas Art

This isn't really a post about fall, it's a post for any day. Several years ago my husband asked me to make a painting for him since I always paint murals and artwork for other people. I asked what he wanted and he asked for something "abstract." He actually wanted something geometric. I got as far as getting the design sketched on a large square canvas. It's still sitting in our guest room. A few weeks ago I painted a huge canvas for our new Children's Ministry classroom. It was completely different than anything I've ever done before. And before it had words on it, the hubs asked if we could keep it. Not possible since it specifically matched the classroom and the available space and was purchased by our church. I promised to to make a smaller painting for our house. We picked out some paint colors, and got a canvas on sale. Here's how east it is to make your own art for your home, office, or for a gift. Pick whatever colors you like and a ca...

Whooo loves fall??

One of my favorite things are owls. I became slightly obsessed while pledging in college. Then I inherited some from my grandparents (Isn't it amazing how much better you can see dust in photos; yuck!) . My friends started buying them as gifts. Now it's borderline hoarding. While most people think of owls as a Halloween or fall only decor piece, I would disagree. This is a new addition to my desk at work...  This guy spoke to me at our new local HomeGoods the other day. And even my husband suggested that we get him; so it was decidedly so. We have owl trivets, potholders and salt shakers, and just last week my my mother-in-law gave me an owl cookie jar. We have owl vases, a piggy bank, numerous statues, a few paintings, and even a door stop. Our dog also has an owl toy. And I have several pieces of owl jewelry. (Look for how-to monogram pumpkins on Sunday Check out my Instagram account for another sneak preview. ) Last year, inspired ...

Mason Jars and OCD

Something you should know about me is that I have obsessive personality tendencies. Like I once decided that I needed to have a pink wool coat for winter. I looked and looked and didn't find one, but then the next year there were pink wool coats everywhere and I finally got one. I also became obsessed with finding a particular pair of pink Reebok tennis shoes . This almost happened this past spring with kelly green shorts. I was satiated with some lime green pants. I became enamored with Sweet FROG after my first encounter. Have you ever tried the mix-your-own-toppings delight? I love their strawberry/cheesecake swirl with fruit added in. Sometimes I get wild and add some peach yogurt if they have it. But I found what I like and don't really deviate to find other flavors. I love owls . I pledged a sorority in college and their mascot was the owl. I found out that my grandparents had some and they became mine. Now I have them everywhere. On my desk at work I have a bank, ...
